Piano Moving Fort Worth

Pianos are expensive and delicate instruments and require specialist moving to ensure their safety and to minimize the amount of tuning required once they reach their new home. Pianos can’t be moved with the laidback air of moving a mattress, and clumsy piano moving by those untrained in the correct procedures could in a worst-case scenario result in a broken plate- practically fatal for a piano.

Our experts at Piano Tuning Fort Worth are fully trained in how to move pianos and are experienced in moving both upright and grand pianos. Pianos shouldn’t just be rolled on their wheels even if they have them, nor lifted and carried as you might move a table. These methods risk damage to the piano, the person moving the piano, or other household property. You should always ensure you are dealing with fully insured experts when arranging a piano move.

How to move a piano

The correct method of moving an upright piano is to carefully lift the piano before sliding a piano movers’ dolly underneath it. The piano will then rest on the dolly, fully supported, and can be wrapped in a covering to protect the piano from being scratched and to protect it from the elements and humidity that can cause it to need a greater level of tuning. The wheels of the dolly are rubber to prevent scratching floors and for ease of movement.

A grand piano is more complex to move and involves a lot of wrapping and protection to ensure that various parts of the piano do not rub up against and scratch others. Specialist skid boards may be fitted to the piano before moving, and before the piano is moved onto the piano moving dolly. Legs may need to be removed and this should only be done by a trained professional.

Once your piano reaches its new home

Once transported and safely unwrapped and settled into its new home, the piano is likely to need a tune to return it to optimum playing condition. Even with the best possible care and attention during the move, the movement of the wooden frame and the potential for temperature and humidity changes or differences between its old and new locations mean a fresh tune may be required. Our professionals at Piano Tuning Fort Worth can help with this too, so ask about booking in this service when making the booking for the move.
